Academics

General Information – Cambridge International School

Academic Schedule

The academic session at Cambridge International School follows the Cambridge International Curriculum. Each academic year is divided into three terms:

  • Term 1: September – December

  • Term 2: January – April

  • Term 3: May – July

This schedule provides structured learning, timely assessments, and breaks that support students’ academic and personal growth.

Curriculum & Credit System

Cambridge programmes emphasize both breadth and depth of learning. Each subject carries credit weightage that reflects:

  • Classroom Teaching (theory lessons)

  • Practical Work (labs, projects, ICT, fieldwork)

  • Independent Study & Assignments

Credits ensure students balance theory with hands-on application, in line with global education standards.

Study Duration

  • Pre-Primary: Nursery to Senior (3 years)

  • Primary: Classes 1 – 6 (6 years)

  • Lower Secondary: Classes 7 – 9 (3 years)

  • Upper Secondary (IGCSE): Classes 10 – 11 (2 years)

  • Advanced Level (AS & A Level): Class 12 – 13 (2 years)

This structure allows students to progress step by step, with smooth transitions at each stage.

 Assessment & Evaluation

Cambridge students are evaluated through a mix of continuous assessment and final examinations, ensuring both consistent effort and performance under examination conditions.

  • Continuous Assessment (40–50%)

    • Class participation

    • Homework & projects

    • Practical work & presentations

  • Final Examinations (50–60%)

    • Cambridge set or school-based tests

    • Standardized marking criteria to ensure fairness

Practical subjects may be assessed fully through continuous coursework and projects.

Grading System

Cambridge uses internationally recognized grading standards:

  • Primary & Lower Secondary: Progression tests & Cambridge Checkpoints

  • IGCSE: Graded from A (highest) to G*

  • AS & A Level: Graded from A to E*

Grades reflect not only knowledge but also application, analytical skills, and creativity.

GPA / Achievement Levels

While Cambridge awards grades, schools also track student performance using internal GPA/CGPA equivalents to monitor overall progress across all subjects.

  • SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average): Performance per term/semester

  • CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average): Overall achievement throughout the programme
